How to Choose Diamond Rings?

Sunday Oct 31, 2010

How to choose a diamond ring? It is a common confusion among many people. In fact, it is mainly because most buyers have little professional knowledge about diamonds. Actually, the quality of a diamond is mainly determined by four aspects: its carat, clarity, color and cut. It is the so-called 4C standard.

First, as to its carat, most females are mesmerized with large diamond. Indeed, the larger a diamond ring’s carat is, the more precious it is and the higher is its price. Besides, on condition of diamond rings with same carat, their values may also differ given different clarity, color or cut. Therefore, in choosing a diamond ring, one shouldn’t merely focus on its carat. Instead, one should also take other factors into consideration such as financial conditions and other qualities which have a bearing on the value of the diamond ring.

And then is its clarity. As diamond takes form deep in the mantle of the earth, it is unavoidable to have some impurities contained in it. Therefore, the color, amount and shape of these impurities will affect the clarity of a diamond. Accordingly, a diamond will be bracketed into different grades depending on to what extent the clarity of a diamond is affected by these impurities.

Third is the color of a diamond. Diamonds have many different colors: transparent, pale blue, pink and yellowish. Generally, transparent ones are most precious.

Cut is also important. Only after cutting and polishing will a natural diamond give off its full brilliance. A well-cut diamond will radiate dizzily when holding against light.

In addition, we also have to see to the ring besides diamond itself. A ring is usually made of heavy metals such as platinum, gold or karat gold. There is an international standard over the value of these heavy metals, so the value of a ring is guaranteed as long as it reaches certain standard.

Another factor to see to is the style and brand of the diamond ring. Usually, renowned jewelry producers have their own design team and thus are capable of developing more new styles of diamond rings, but the prices of which are higher comparing to others.
